AWA Alliance Bank Supports Philanthropic Shark Tank

Live crowd funding offers a new way of giving.

United Way Glenelg recently held a Philanthropic Shark Tank: a live crowd fund event that connected social change programs with people who want to help see change happen.

Three local community organisations came to the event to pitch their idea to the audience; their aim to raise $6,000 each. Following a Q&A the crowd fund pledges began. To match the generous spirit in the room AWA Alliance Bank kicked off the fundraising with $4,000 for each of the programs.

The atmosphere was charged with positive energy as so many in the audience were inspired by the programs and the people behind them. Pledges on the night totalled more than $40K.

Take a look at how a philanthropic shark tank crowd fund event works.

The organisations:
Standing Tall – Heywood & District

Supporting initiatives that improve the metal health of residents.
Standing Tall recruits and trains community volunteers to support young people who are at risk of disengaging from education through weekly mentoring sessions to build on their strengths and resilience.

Funds raised will be used to recruit, train and provide on-going support for 3-4 additional mentor pairings.

Mealshare - Portland Community

Supporting a range of initiatives that promote healthy living.
Portland Community Mealshare improves the health and wellbeing of the community through the provision of free hearty, nutritious meals in a supportive and respectful environment.

Funds raised will be used to purchase meat and other ingredients to expand the number of weekly meals they provide from one to two evenings and introduce a breakfast program.

Live4Life - Glenelg

Supporting initiatives that improve the mental health of residents.
Live4Life reduces the risk of youth mental health crisis in Glenelg Shire by supporting, improving and investing in young people’s mental health by training young people as ambassadors.

Funds raised will be used to support up to 45 young people to become part of the 2020 Live4life crew through induction, development, skill and team building.
